WHAT’S NEW?
WHAT I LEARNT THIS MONTH Liz Kentish
Well, the big night had finally arrived! The British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM) awards, held at Grosvenor House, and Kentish and Co were a finalist in the Impact on Organisational Performance category. We had our table with clients and associates and we were all feeding off each other’s excitement.
Drum roll, and the winner is… not us; we were Highly Commended, but didn’t receive the top prize.
To be completely honest, in the moments that followed the declaration, I had very mixed emotions; each one bubbling to the surface to replace the one before. What I learned in those moments was that it is right and proper to be gracious in defeat and I wholeheartedly applauded the winners.
For a small company we had done brilliantly to be included with so many large corporates in this category and my feeling of disappointment that we didn’t quite get the top prize was replaced with a burst of gratitude that our team had achieved so much.
In the weeks that followed, we received very detailed feedback from the judges on how they had marked the submissions and the presentations, with some really honest pointers on what we could have done better. This constructive feedback has been brilliant because not only will it allow us to enhance the core value proposition of our future submissions, but it has also given us an insight into ways we can improve our proposals for new business.

DEDICATED INSURANCE PRODUCTS FOR THE
DATACENTRE SECTOR For the first time ever, a new suite of
insurance products and services have been created dedicated for the Data Centre sector.
Insurance broker, Ernest R Shaw, has teamed up with Data Centre Alliance (DCA) trade association and technical cleaning and datacentre healthcare business, 8 Solutions, to launch a dedicated insurance proposition specifically designed for the datacentre sector.
The launch follows a 12-month consultation between Ernest R Shaw, 8 Solutions, and the DCA; the task was to identify and agree a best practice framework to underpin this new offering. Businesses that adopt and meet this best-practice in the future could then qualify for a lower insurance premium, underwritten by Allianz Insurance, one of the largest insurers in the UK and part of the Allianz SE Group.
Steve Hone CEO of the DCA Trade Association commented: “Recognising and rewarding datacentres who demonstrate best practice is at the heart of this initiative. Datacentres that have been independently audited under
the DCA certification scheme and or end users who choose to host in datacentres that have achieved this accreditation can now all benefit from this new range of insurance products and services, which have been tailor made to support the datacentre sector and its users.
“As far as I am aware this is the first time this has been done,” Steve added, “and I am delighted the DCA could play its part in making this initiative a reality, it’s a big step forward for the sector and this would not have been possible without the continued support of key members and strategic partners, this is a great example of what can be achieved by working and collaborating together with the full support of a trade association such as the DCA behind you.”
“We have been working closely with Allianz Insurance, one of the largest insurers in the world, to produce bespoke wordings and very competitive rates for this niche sector,” says David Hogg, Managing Director, 8 Solutions. “This proposition has market- leading cleaning standards provided by 8 Solutions built into it and the insurance underwriting has been customised to take this into account as one of the key differentiators.”
