CATERING THE

‘EPOS-SIBILITIES’ ARE ENDLESS

Tony Franklin, Sales Director at Orbis Tech,

provides an insight into the essential role that EPoS systems now play within facilities and

how their use can create effective management and increased customer satisfaction.

In the past decade, the demand for quick ‘grab and go’ convenience solutions has grown significantly, and with this growth has come a transformation of the facilities required within a multitude of different establishments and sectors. Not only do operators need to ensure that the customer is satisfied with quick functional service, but that staff are able to efficiently serve, take payment and offer a more personalised customer experience every time.

It is for these reasons that a fully-integrated EPoS system has become an essential tool in FM. An effective EPoS system will not only allow the operator to provide better customer service, but it will simplify the process for both staff and management. However, it is important to remember that not all EPoS systems are the same, and it is essential that the system chosen is tailored to suit each establishment’s needs and requirements. Furthermore, the EPoS system that is purchased should be able to evolve and develop in conjunction with consumer, operator and market trends or establishments risk buying quickly outdated systems, which leads to additional costs in the long run.

now a fully integrated part of society and are expected in all outlets. In addition to this, alternative payment

options, which include the use of contactless, mobile, gift-cards, vouchers and cashless loyalty solutions are increasingly popular and need to be taken into consideration when selecting your EPoS software. Often, gift-cards, vouchers and cashless loyalty solutions will be predominantly tailored to each individual business in conjunction with the EPoS software in use. A fully integrated cashless top-up solution is something Orbis has developed as an additional module within our own EPoS system. The payment system allows users to pay into an account that is linked to their personal card – such as a staff or student card, which then permits the customer to use that card over the counter at selected sites. By introducing this method of payment, facilities managers can monitor

spend, tailor specific promotions to the customer and apply a synchronicity across facilities with multiple sites.

To gain a real insight into customer spending habits, this cashless top-up solution, coupled with our modular EPoS software allows the facilities manager to ‘group’ customers i.e. ‘Staff’, ‘Visitors’ and ‘Students’. The software will then log each individuals purchases before inputting the data into the correct ‘group’s’ information. The benefit of this is that the manager can create bespoke promotional offers based on each customer’s
