TRAINING & CPD
based on years of research that points to cartoons being able to help people both engage with and remember what’s on screen.
And so, an animated character, affectionately called “TC”, has been introduced to TC people. A knowledgeable chap, he along with some of his friends are hosting a series of short and easily accessible “Toolbox Talks”, bringing a serious message but with a dose of fun. Almost 20 Talks are now available.
But what do Jay & Charlie think of these training resources and how, in their opinion to they make a difference to the both TCFM staff and the clients they serve?
Jay said: “I love the fact that we as a training team have really connected with the front staff here at TCFM. We have taken feedback from our site Managers and Clients when it comes down to working in this fast-paced environment, and in return have designed and developed training needs for the retail sector.”
Charlie went on to say: “It’s been great to see The Toolbox Talks being

developed and used here at TCFM as they offer bite size training that meets our objectives. The added animation gets the message across, are to the point and those with English as their second language helps them with their development.”
“1:1 COACHING SESSIONS
CONTRIBUTE TO THE BEST POSSIBLE
TRAINING.”
In reviewing the impact of the Animated Tool Box talks, Peter Clay, Training and Development Manager, TCFM shared: “The feedback we are getting regarding the Toolbox Talk videos from across the business has been very positive and has proved to be a great way of making sessions such as our initial training more fun and less formal. This is particularly important with regard to providing them with extra information on how to handle a variety of work related situations safely and effectively.
“The talks have been designed to support the staff “on the job”, as a quick means of reference and support outlining our standard procedures when dealing with subjects such as COSHH, Colour Coding as well as providing guidance on handling a range of “situational” issues such as avoiding Slips Trips and Falls, Handling Sharps and Spillages. In each case the videos have been designed to only be a few minutes in length.
“This style of learning has proved to be extremely effective, fun and informative. TC and his growing family of characters will be used by us to continue to provide support to both our operational and business support colleagues across the business. Pixar beware!”
All this demonstrates TCFM’s commitment to developing each person’s skills and abilities to be able to “deliver what has been agreed” with the customer and to “treat others as we want to be treated,” two of values staff at TCFM work to.
