Recent reports show just how vital good food in the workplace is to engage employees and boost productivity. John Broderick, Managing Director of Broderick’s shares what the companies who are


getting it right are doing, and how facilities


managers can specify snacking solutions that add to a business’ bottom line.


When leading edge tech companies like Google and Facebook use food as a way to attract and retain top talent, it’s time for the rest of the world to sit up and take notice. A study for USA Today recently revealed that 48% of job seekers weigh up perks like the availability of snacks in the workplace, when deciding whether to work for a company.


The study found that 67% of employees with access to free food at work are extremely or very happy in their job; it’s no secret that happy employees are more engaged and productive. In fact, according to research by the iOpener Institute for People and Performance, happy employees spend double the number of working hours doing what they’re actually paid to do than their less content counterparts. Plus, studies show that being happy boosts the immune system whilst keeping stress levels more manageable.

OPTIONS So, the question is how to deliver on providing the best snacking solutions for office environments?

And what sort of snacks should be on offer? A recent survey suggested that: ‘fully fitted kitchens, coffee and juice bars should become a norm.’ This approach to making office environments feel more like home emulates Google’s model, which uses food to encourage separate work teams to congregate in communal break out areas and exchange ideas, interact and collaborate.
