PRODUCTS & SERVICES TOOLBOX TALKS

WITH A DOSE OF FUN TC Facilities Management (TCFM) is a company that strives to deliver operational excellence across everything it does. To deliver this to its customers on a consistent basis, it seeks out the best possible training solutions for both its business and its people.

Finding engaging ways to communicate with staff to ensure information is read and remembered is key. A number of possible routes were considered by TCFM before it finally chose an animated approach. This choice was built on years of research that points to cartoons being able to help people both engage with and remember what’s on screen. And so, an animated character, affectionately

called ‘TC’, has been introduced to TC people. A knowledgeable chap, he along with some his friends are hosting a series of short and easily accessible ‘Toolbox Talks’, bringing a serious message but with a dose of fun.

Peter Clay, Training and Development Manager at TC Facilities Management said: “We saw this as a simple and fun way of communicating to our staff some really important health and safety points about the one best way of carrying out a task or duty.

“Animation allows us to get our message over in a more engaging fashion as well as capturing the attention of the viewer. These skill- based videos only last a few minutes and enable us to reinforce training previously undertaken as well as acting as a valuable reminder on our company policy and procedures.”

In addition to this and to underpin TCFM’s training, further access to all its training material is available through the company intranet. This ranges from the company’s own formal training documentation through to video ‘how to’ clips on equipment daily maintenance. There is also access to more than 150 short online learning modules; again covering every aspect of the business, people management and legislative and mandatory policy programmes centring on specific health and safety training.

These all form part of the overall training programme which includes apprenticeship programmes, Reach – a development programme for new or junior level managers, which provides an opportunity to attain Level 3 ILM qualifications, and Pertino – for more experienced and senior managers looking to attain a Level 5 ILM qualification.

In addition, TC people are encouraged to access more specific FM related training programmes through the BIFM Direct platform. This enables TCFM managers to further develop their skills and knowledge as well as attaining nationally and professionally recognised FM qualifications.

“Being able to collect data from any floorcare asset, regardless of the manufacturer, is a great advantage for facility managers,” said Jan Willem Tinge, Global Vice President Facilities and Machines, Diversey Care. “With IntelliTrail, we’re enabling remote monitoring and analysis of floorcare assets to help organisations solve floorcare and machine maintenance issues with ease.”

IntelliTrail combines smart technology, GPS tracking and web applications to provide managers with real-time visibility of fleet performance. The device is simple to install, and provides managers with machine data including geographical position, run time and lost assets.

The Monthly Fleet Summary Report proactively manages operations by giving managers 24/7 instant access to actionable data. The report highlights the top three actions needing attention, top sites with variance in operating hours, battery state, crashes and more.
