What’s the best advice you could


give to someone new coming


into the industry? Learn the basics, ask endless questions and then ask more questions.

What was your first job? I started as a trainee with


the long-gone Fine Fare supermarket chain. I learnt to hate the cold from the giant fridges.


How did you get into the flooring industry?


Very much through the back door- I worked for a national house-builder and part of the role was choosing finishes. I became hooked and have remained so ever since.


What do you think are the positives and


negatives of the flooring trade? The positives definitely outweigh the negatives and that is mostly down to the incredible mix of people that work in our industry.


Although, I still get frustrated when people fix a product that they aren’t qualified on.


If you could hire any one person to be part


of your team, who would it be


and why? Great question! James T. Kirk (from sci-fi classic Star Trek) as we really do want to go boldly where none have gone before.

Carpet Focus Group, asked: Do you think we will start to see new small business enterprises emerge in the UK following the


decision to leave the EU? I absolutely do! Whatever your views on Brexit, there can be no doubt that it will bring incredible opportunities for those wishing to export the best of the UK’s ideas, products and people. It isn’t a case of waiting and seeing what might happen, rather an incredible chance for smaller, more nimble businesses to make a global impact.

If you could invent any product what would it


be and why? A teleportation device so we can actually do the impossible multiple times, in various locations, on the same day.

If you could have a dinner party with any


three people, dead or alive,


who would they be and why? Robin Williams who is, in my opinion, a total genius. Winston Churchill, because I believe he was the greatest Brit ever. And Jeremy Clarkson, because it would be the best dinner party in – the - world.

good for all of us. Health and safety and product suitability is ever more paramount and I believe a combination of these two factors will sort the wheat from the chaff. Going forward, I think we will see a better educated, better prepared industry.
