AMERICA OPEN FIRST NATURALLY CLEANED
SWIMMING POOL The United States have finally caught up with Europe by opening its first ever chlorine-free, naturally filtered swimming pool.
While European swimmers have enjoyed these pools since the 80s, US regulations have meant that until now, public pools had to be treated and cleaned with chemicals.
After prolonged delays, the chlorine- free waters of the Webber Park Natural Swimming Pool in Minneapolis have opened to the general public.
The 500,000 gallons of water that make up the swimming pool are
EXCITEMENT BUILDING FOR INDIA’S CLEANING
TECHNOLOGY WEEK The large scale development being witnessed in India across various industry segments is increasing the demand for more cleaning industry intervention.
Come January next year, Virtual Info Systems, the organiser of Asia’s leading cleaning expo, Clean India Pulire, is hosting Cleaning Technology Week 2016 which will establish the fact that India is taking the “Cleaning and Hygiene” aspect, especially professional cleaning, very seriously.
In tune with the increased demand for technology and best practices in different segments, a week-long programme consisting of expos and events is being organised from January 17-23rd, 2016 in Mumbai.
The highlight of Cleaning Technology Week is the five concurrent expos (January 21-23): Clean India Pulire; Car Care Expo; IFS Expo; Waste Technology India Expo and Laundrex India which together are expected to draw in more than

15,000 business visitors. Cleaning Industry professionals from sectors like healthcare, industries, business houses, hotels, government departments, transport sector and municipal corporations who are increasingly looking for cleaning solutions will be part of the event. It is estimated that over 400 national and international cleaning products/ systems will be showcased.
With six months to go, the Clean India Pulire show is almost sold out. Over 200 exhibitors from 20 countries, more than 100 new launches, live demos, exclusive buyer-seller meets and distributor- franchisee partner networking are all the highpoints of the expo.
The Cleaning Technology Week begins with Roadshows on January 17-19th in
cleaned using a natural filtration system, rather than chemicals.
Every 12 hours, the water drains out of the pool and into an adjacent “regeneration basin”, where it is cleaned using layers of gravel and around 7,000 aquatic plants, before being pumped back into the pool. The surface of the pool is kept clear of debris by vacuum cleaners.
The delays were caused, according to a report by the NBC-affiliated KARE news channel, in part by problems with the vacuums, which left staff cleaning the pool by hand.
Alongside this, monitoring of the complex water management system means that the pool is only currently open for three days a week, according to the Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board website.
While the project to create the chemical-free pool began ten years ago, construction only got underway in 2013, and it has cost more than $6m (£3.9m), well above the original estimate of $4m.
The lack of chlorine in the pool means that it won’t be discharging gallons of chemically treated water, and swimmers won’t be left with red, bloodshot eyes.
Speaking to the website Upworthy, Jayne Miller, Superintendent of the Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board, said: “We have a responsibility to be a good steward of public land and public water. It’s consistent with our mission.”
The Minneapolis parks department manages more than 5,000 acres of parkland, and is ranked as the number one parks authority in the US.
different Indian cities. There will be live demos of mechanised cleaning and implementation of hygiene solutions at strategic locations, including malls, schools, hospitals and public places.
The road shows will involve NGOs, government departments and the cleaning industry.
Working towards involving even those involved at the grassroots level in the cleaning industry, the Clean India Challenge will hold competitions for the cleaning associates from the facility service companies. Teams from across India will compete at various levels and shortlisted teams will take the hot seat in the Grand Finale Quiz Contest on January 21st at the Bombay Exhibition Centre.
The much-awaited 2nd Clean India Awards will announce the winners on January 22nd at a gala ceremony in Mumbai. The nominations for the award categories opened on July 22nd, 2015.
The January Cleaning Technology Week in Mumbai has already created a lot of enthusiasm among both the exhibitors and professionals who are planning to visit the event.
