Peak wins Best New Exporter to China award for British Business
On the 3rd of November 2016, Peak Scientific, a leading manufacturer of nitrogen, hydrogen and zero air laboratory gas generators, was awarded the Best New Exporter to China Award at the British Business Awards, held in Shanghai and hosted by the British Chamber of Commerce Shanghai. Peak was awarded this accolade for displaying several key business criteria within the Chinese market, namely, identifying a target market, growing export volume, adapting to meet the specific requirements of the Chinese market, creating a sustainable business model and making an impact on industry as well as key influencers in China.
The Best New Exporter to China Award, sponsored by the British Government’s Department for International Trade, has recognised the efforts of the Peak team in China as well as the strategy and business model Peak has delivered throughout the globe and tailored successfully for the Chinese market.
With a growing business operation in China, Peak has
placed increasing importance on this region, investing in a new offi ce as recently as 2015 and increasing the number of dedicated Peak colleagues to service the Chinese market directly. There are now Peak engineers covering the length and breadth of China, able to provide Peak’s industry leading, rapid response, on-site laboratory gas generator service to all of China.
Accepting the award for Peak was General Manager for China, Chris Harvey, who commented: “The team in China have been growing steadily in the 4 years I have been at Peak. This award can be attributed to a lot of hard work both in China and with the great support and close interaction we have with our Global Headquarters in Glasgow, Scotland, in addition to Peak’s great product and business model.”
With continued growth expected for Peak’s business in China, further expansion is planned with new dedicated offi ces in other key regions such as Beijing and Guangzhou in order to better serve customers in this region.

GE Healthcare opens US$ 7.4 Million APAC Fast Trak Bioprocessing Technology and Training Centre in South Korea
GE Healthcare’s Life Sciences business have announced the opening of a GE Fast Trak Centre in Songdo, Incheon Metropolitan City, South Korea.
The new US$ 7.4 million centre will support
the growth of South Korea’s rapidly expanding biopharmaceutical industry by providing hands-on practical training, technology evaluation, manufacturing support, and consultancy services in the latest strategies and technologies for upstream and downstream bioprocessing.
Demand for GE’s newest Fast Trak Centre is expected to be high. During the past fi ve years the domestic production of biopharmaceuticals in South Korea has grown 9%, and exports grew almost 34% between 2014 and 2015, from US$ 589 million to US$ 809 million. Songdo is already home to a number of leading South Korean biopharmaceutical companies, and excellent national
and international transport links will enable GE customers from other parts of the country, and the wider Asia region, easy access to the services that the centre has to offer.

Hamamatsu Announces new Building to Expand Production of Infrared Detectors and Emitters
Hamamatsu Photonics KK has announced the construction of a new building no. 3 at its Miyakoda Factory to increase manufacturing capacity of compound semiconductor devices. This expansion is being done in anticipation of growing demand for detectors and emitters in various applications that utilise infrared light.
A ground-breaking ceremony was held on the site of the new building on 12th October 2016. Construction is scheduled to be completed in October 2017.

Gyros Protein Technologies Establishes Dedicated Office in Japan
Gyros Protein Technologies AB, a pioneer in automated nanolitre- scale immunoassays and leading provider of peptide synthesisers and reagents, have announced it has established a dedicated offi ce in Tokyo, Japan and has established Gyros Japan KK.
The dedicated Japan team provides sales, applications and service support in Japan for the Company’s Gyros’ immunoassay business. Gyros Japan KK replaces support previously provided under the distribution agreement in Japan with GE Healthcare for Gyros Protein Technologies’ nanolitre-scale immunoassay platform business (Gyrolab xP workstation, Gyrolab xPlore, related reagents, consumables and service).
GE Healthcare will continue providing support for sales, technical support
and maintenance service until the end of December 2016. Gyros Japan KK will take over full responsibility for the region from January 2017, ensuring a smooth transition for customers.

A partial rearranging of the responsibilities in the Management Board of Eppendorf AG will be taking effect in a move designed to further drive the successful implementation of the company’s strategy. This includes the creation of a new Board position which will include Sales, Marketing and Service in order to focus on developing the market presence of Eppendorf.
As a result of these changes, the Supervisory Board of Eppendorf AG and Dr Ralf Hermann, Board member, Chief Marketing & Portfolio Offi cer, have agreed that the Board mandate shall end by the end of October 2016. The Supervisory Board and the Management Board would like to thank Dr Hermann for his many years of valuable and dedicated work and wish him all the best for the future.
Eppendorf are also launching a new LifeScienceStyle Magazine ‘Off the bench’, which will be published twice a year with a varied mix of informative and entertaining topics that focus on life in the laboratory.
