New Line of Electronic Pipettes with Industry Leading Guaranteed Performance in Repetitive Pipetting Launched
Gilson has redesigned and expanded the range of its easy-to-use, PIPETMAN® M line of single and multichannel electronic pipettes. The pipettes now include guaranteed performance in repetitive pipetting mode and a programmable custom mode, enhancing results reliability.
For sensitive biological assays like qPCR, repeatable results depend on accurate, precise pipetting, but until now most pipettes only promise performance in one standard pipetting mode both for standard and repetitive tasks. Gilson now guarantees accuracy and precision of the PIPETMAN® M also in repetitive pipetting mode and ensures reliable performance from the first to the last aliquot. In the absence of ISO recommendations for repetitive pipetting mode for air-displacement pipettes, Gilson volumetric specifications for the repetitive mode are within ISO 8655-2 recommendations for standard pipetting.
Five pipetting mode options enable to perform a large number of applications: pipet (standard), repetitive, mix, reverse and custom (personalised) with a fast access menu to all the modes plus the intuitive navigation.
The new personalised pipetting mode lets researchers create their own multi-step pipetting protocols, using the simple PIPETMAN® M Software interface, which can be executed automatically so there is no need for repetitive button pushing that could cause stress injuries. The PIPETMAN® M Software can also be used to easily share protocols for improved security, reproducibility, and keep information traceability.
The product update has also extended the number of models to give one of the most extensive volume ranges in the market. This includes eight single-channel (from 0.5 µL to 10 mL) and 12 multichannel (from 0.5 µL to 1200 µL) options to allow for exact volume selection and optimised pipetting performance.

New Automatic Melting Point System with Digital Video Technology for Walk-Away Recording of Sample Melting Launched
Bibby Scientific Ltd have announced that Stuart®, a leading UK manufacturer of bench-top laboratory equipment, has launched the SMP50, a new automatic melting point system that incorporates high resolution video technology combined with an intelligent melt algorithm to determine the melting point of up to three samples, simultaneously and automatically. The SMP50’s digital camera also records the sample melt, providing confirmation of the automatically-obtained result and time-stamped video files that can be easily transferred to a PC for long-term proof of measurement and traceability.
This latest addition to Stuart’s leading range of Melting Point products can be trusted to measure sample melting points automatically, through monitoring and identifying small changes in the sample. Its accurate and reliable capabilities save valuable time and labour for scientists while conforming to Pharmacopeia and GLP standards. The system’s user-interface is based on the well-known Android platform, making it highly intuitive to set up and navigate, with a logical layout and easy access of common tasks from the home screen. The SMP50’s functions include rapid ramp mode, for quickly scanning through the entire temperature range (at 20ºC per minute) when working with unknown plateau temperatures.
“Stuart has been instrumental in making the automatic melting point a commonplace piece of laboratory equipment,” said Jackie Taylor, Product & Marketing Communications Manager at Bibby Scientific. “The new SMP50 is built on cutting-edge, intelligent technology that fully automates melting point measurements in a simple, compact and user-friendly unit that’s suitable for labs of all sizes.”
All operation is via the 7-inch high-definition colour touchscreen and, once programmed, users can walk away from the system and leave it to complete the melt analysis independently. Alternatively, melting can be observed live on-screen, or through watching the video recording post-melt; up to 300 melt files can be stored in the system’s 8GB memory.
