Queen’s Award for Dura Composites T

he Queen’s Award for Enterprise 2017 has been awarded to Dura Composites, a leading supplier of

composite products for the marina industry, in the international trade category as a result of its sustained and impressive international growth. The Queen’s Awards celebrate the best of British business and recognise companies who are making an outstanding contribution to enterprise. Each entry is judged by a specialist panel that makes a recommendation to the Prime Minister’s Advisory Committee. Her Majesty the Queen then decides the winners, who each receive an official grant of appointment and an invitation to a celebratory reception at Buckingham Palace.

Dura Composites was established in1996 when the company first began selling fibreglass grating for use as anti-slip walkways in marinas and factories. Over the past 20 years, the product range has expanded to include Glass Reinforced Plastic Trench Covers, Profiles, Handrail, Stair Treads and the market-leading Dura Deck and Dura Cladding made from

Rebranding for SKD

On behalf of investment firm Blackstone, Camper and Nicholsons Marinas (CNM) is now managing and operating the marina at St Katharine Docks (SKD) under a three-year contract. The marina can accommo- date superyachts up to 40 metres, has been brought up to modern standards and has a visibly high-end look and feel, largely due to the changed marina layout, new pontoons, lighting and utilities. Coupled with its location, wide range of restaurants and the high standards of customer service deliv- ered by General Manager Paul Tetlow and his team, SKD is now arguably the most modern marina in the UK. Since CNM won the redesign and re- furbishment contract with Blackstone back in April, 2015, a huge amount of work has gone into delivering the pro- ject on time and on budget.Guy Rudd, Managing Director of Blackstone Prop- erty Management, commented: “We have been hugely impressed with the way Camper & Nicholsons Marinas have delivered this project both on time and in budget, and within tight controls”. He went on to say: “We have made a significant investment in the St Katharine Docks estate and it is paying dividends in the number of

new tenants we have at International House and the surrounding buildings. The marina provides the estate with a USP which attracts tenants, who want an inspiring and unconventional setting for their business in Central London”. The successful collaboration between

CNM, Blackstone and the various con- tractors involved, including Poralu Ma- rine, Maricer and Beadmans ensured this complex project went as smoothly as possible. The docks themselves are both ancient and historic, and therefore protected, which added extra layers of complexity to the project. The restoration works were carefully undertaken to ensure no damage was done to the quay walls of the three marina basins within the dock. The entire works programme was

completed in a ‘live’ marina that had yachts arriving and departing, with minimal disruption to berth-holders and commercial tenants, as well as land-side residents. Paul Tetlow explained: “Imagine a family trying to renovate their whole house, while still living in it! Everyone needs to be involved and kept well-informed as each room needs to be emptied and reoccupied to support the ongoing works”.

Pedestal first for Hungary

A large number of Rolec’s Quantum marina service pedestals have been manufactured to supply services to a total of 264 berths at the Kenese Marina Port in Hungary. In a first for the country, the anodised aluminium 1,000 mm service pedestals, which were requested, will also feature 16 amp single-phase sockets, cable TV sockets and LED photocell- controlled illumination. Kate Broom, Rolec’s International Marina Sales Manager, commented: “We were delighted to be asked to add our Quantum pedestals to yet another marina in Europe, this time in Hungary. “These pedestals add to the thousands we have already manufactured for marinas around the world since we launched our Quantum range just over a year ago.” Kate continued: “Our Quantum marina service pedestals fuse high quality materials with the affordability of entry level-priced units, making them an ideal marina service pedestal solution. “Quantum is innovative yet

economical, providing a powerful blend of versatility and design and, with their extruded anodised aluminium frames, they offer a unique strength and stability seldom seen on other marina service pedestals.”
