French pontoons in the heart of London Pontoon manufacturer Poralu Marine, which specialises in top-of- the-range harbour facilities, was awarded control of a project for renovating a marina in the heart of London in the tourist area of St Katharine Docks near Tower Bridge on the River Thames. The French SME was chosen to manage this ambitious project in its entirety from start to finish and to combine aesthetics with established technical and logistical solutions due to its proven ability to carry out successful installations throughout the world in both urban and tourist environments. The operation was conducted with the assistance of Irish company Inland & Coastal Marina

Systems Ltd, which provided logistics for the installation. St Katharine Docks was

completely renovated with natural wood, curved pontoons, which follow the shape of the quay, and Premium gates bearing the Poralu Marine signature. Dismantling existing equipment, putting new equipment in place and installing electricity and water at the berths presented many challenges, not least the fact that many residential boats are moored permanently in the marina basins and these had to be moved in a series of successive phases before the renovation could take place. New berths for Portishead Quays One of seven marinas across the United Kingdom owned and operated by Quay Marinas, Portishead Quays Marina on the

Severn Estuary in England has gained another 47 pontoon berths, taking the current total to 325. The planned capacity of the marina is in the region of 375 berths. At the South end of the marina

basin, Walcon Marine Ltd installed an extension to the main walkway and added an additional pier. A mix of new System 2000 and existing pontoons were used to create ten new berths immediately, with the scope for more to be added in the future. Walcon’s mobile piling rig was deployed to extract and redrive four piles and add seven new ones. At the North end, a new walkway and pier were installed with seven finger piers to create 15 additional berths. This also leaves scope for adding more in the future. An office pontoon platform to

be used by Tingdene Boat Sales was also built and installed at the facility by Walcon. Walcon Marine Ltd sales@walconmarine.com www.walconmarine.com
