Volunteers gathered at Droitwich Community Woods on T ursday 16 February to help plant a new hedge that will help wildlife fl ourish.


T anks to funding worth £1,000 that Wychavon District Council helped to secure through the Tesco Bags of Help fund, over the course of the day the volunteers from Worcestershire Wildlife Trust along with offi cers from Wychavon, planted over 800 young hedges along a 130 metre stretch of the woods that runs along the main road near to the visitor car park at Ombersley Way.


T e planting was organised to help introduce a natural buff er between the main road and Droitwich Community Woods, which is a wonderful place for people and wildlife.


T e young hedge whips will grow into a complete hedgerow packed full of a variety of native plants such as blackthorn, dogwood and dog rose that

VOLUNTEERS HELPING WILDLIFE TO FLOURISH


will provide fl owers and fruit for wildlife, and as a result it will transform a patch of sterile mown grass into a wildlife asset good for insects, birds and small mammals.


Volunteers will continue to be involved in monitoring the success of the planting by seeing what new plants and animals colonise the newly planted areas from the nearby woods.
