An inside look at: WORCESTER CATHEDRAL

famous landmark and


tourist attraction: Worcester Cathedral. T e Cathedral is a magnifi cent sight as it rises majestically above the River Severn. Worcester has been the seat of a bishopric since the


Seventh Century, and


the Cathedral was served by monks until the Reformation. St Oswald and St Wulfstan

were among the bishops. Since the Eighteenth Century, the Cathedral has been famous for its part in the annual T ree Choirs Festival, the oldest choral festival in existence. Today the Cathedral is the centre of a vibrant community of


clergy and laypeople,


off ering the praises of God each day, serving the city and diocese of Worcester, and attracting visitors from all over the world! Worcester Cathedral is one of England’s loveliest cathedrals. With royal tombs of King John


and Prince Arthur,


medieval cloisters, ancient crypt and chapter house, and magnifi cent Victorian stained glass. T ere is also a fascinating ancient library and archive, which houses the second largest collection of medieval manuscripts in any cathedral in the UK. Worcester Cathedral is open daily


7.30am-6pm, with Services three times daily. Entry is free. From Easter to the end of October T e Tower is open on Saturdays and Bank Holidays. It is also open during the school summer holidays. T ere is lots to do and see and lots of material available to help you through your journey of discovery. One of the newest resources available to visitors is called ‘Telling the Story’, it is based on using interactive media such as touchscreens and apps! You can download the free app for your phone or ipad that will guide you around the stunning surroundings and enhance the experience. At the end of your educating and spiritual exploration you can visit the coff ee shop for some light refreshments and the giſt shop for a souvenir or two!
