BURTON’S JUICE PLUS COMPLETE SMOOTHIE

Burton has kept her weight off for 45 years and part of her secret is she makes a 60-ounce smoothie packed with vegetables and fruit, and sips on it all day. This is a smaller version she makes for her husband and it contains two servings of fruit and two servings of vegetables. Don’t let the ingredients scare you, Living Well tasted it and it was delicious .

1 whole apple (minus the stem and seeds)

2 tablespoons flaxseed 1 handful spinach 1 carrot Half an avocado

8 ounces unsweetened almond milk 1 tablespoon cocoa nibs

2 tablespoons raw shredded coconut 1 cup frozen blueberries

DEAN CURTIS FOR LIVING WELL Diane Burton’s favorite smoothie.

1 scoop French Vanilla Juice Plus Complete Smoothie Powder (or a vanilla protein powder)

1½ cups crushed ice DON’T LOSE YOUR HOME!

Place flaxseed in a spice grinder and grind it into a powder. Bur- ton does like to buy ground flaxseed because it can turn ran- cid quickly so she grinds it fresh each day.

She uses a Vitamix blender, but any strong blender, like the Ninja, will do.

Place the first eight ingredients in the blender and blend until smooth. Then add the final three ingredients and blend. The mix- ture is thick.

Burton uses Juice Plus Complete Smoothie powder which is a direct to consumer product that she also sells, but you can sub- stitute a vanilla protein powder if you don’t have Juice Plus.
