under stress and what is needed to heal. The source of the stress can be structural, chemical, nutritional, mental, or emotional imbalances. Muscle testing is often seen as the

hero of kinesiology. However, what is often not spoken about enough is that, at the very heart of a kinesiology session, and what I believe to be the unsung hero, is the uncovering and release of stored emotions. Now, to be fair to muscle testing, it

is the method or technique used by kinesiologists to find which emotions are stored subconsciously. These stored, and usually unresolved emotions are like a virus in a computer. They lurk around unseen but cause a hell of a lot of problems for the client. While most people understand that

unresolved emotions can result in emotional or mental distress, the idea that emotions can also contribute to structural, chemical, or nutritional issues is being more slowly accepted.

CLEARING EMOTIONS AND REDUCING PAIN Take, for example, Felicity, a 74-year-old lady who presented with tendonitis and arthritis in her right shoulder, with pain of three months. Her family doctor had prescribed anti-inflammatory medication after the first month of presentation and when this did not relieve the pain, a steroidal anti-inflammatory was injected into the site. Despite these treatments there

was residual pain when the joint was overworked, which caused the pain to

radiate down her arm. She was skeptical about kinesiology but was desperate to try anything that might reduce the pain. Although Felicity’s goal was pain

reduction, only one pain management technique showed up as being effective. Most of the balances addressed unresolved emotions, and it became clear her emotions were the trigger of her pain. She had been ‘shouldering’ a lot of responsibility and this was manifesting itself physically in her body. After three sessions she had no pain, even when the shoulder was challenged. Sometimes people who have had

many counselling or psychotherapy sessions are surprised when emotions that have already been discussed at length come up again for discussion

what the emotion means to the client for it to be fully resolved. As Richard Gerber says in Vibrational

Medicine: “Health and wellness are a reflection of the normal unimpeded flow of higher vibrational energies through the body/mind/spirit. Each person may be viewed as a channel or conduit of many different kinds of energy”.

TOSSING THE PEBBLES AWAY People book into kinesiology to feel better for a number of reasons. Most arrive at their sessions without realising they have been walking around with one, or many ‘pebbles in their shoe’. And when they do stop to pull out, look at, then toss those pebbles out, they walk away feeling freer and happier than they have for a long time.■

“If you have a rock in your shoe you don’t just keep walking, you stop and deal with it. But we often don’t do that with our emotions”

during a kinesiology session. Our bodies can be a stubborn storehouse of feelings! As kinesiology is an energetic

practice, it recognises that there are flows of energy within the body. When the flow is interrupted, the whole body is affected. And when the source of that blockage is emotional, several corrections may be needed in addition to, and at the same time as, discussing
