and in excellent condition, having been protected by a layer of rubble. However major repairs will still be needed in the northern and southern transitional areas between the Finishing Straight and where the slab was situated. Now that the Hangar is being re-constructed, traffic is being routed over the newly-exposed Finishing Straight, with traffic lights and a 5mph speed limit in force, principally to ensure that the transition areas are not damaged by commercial vehicles travelling at speed.

Tenders for the exhibition and interactive dis- plays have been received and are being assessed, with this phase of the project due to begin in May. The Curatorial Team and volunteers continue to work hard on restoration and conservation of the aircraft and other artefacts for the displays and the Flight Shed has been invaluable as an additional space for this work over the winter. A new wing has been successfully fitted to the Hawker P1127, which has now been moved to the Flight Shed for further work, with restoration of this aircraft on track for its installation on the mezzanine in the reconstructed Hangar by specialist contractors Finch & Co of Bookham. The Vanguard cockpit has also been installed in the Flight Shed for

A grand re-opening of the Finishing Straight is due to take place on 17th June at the Double Twelve Motorsport Festival, this being the 110th anniversary of the opening of the Track. Associ- ated activities to celebrate this stage of the project are under development, with the Aircraft Factory and Flight Shed due to be opened late summer 2017.

The course is based on an initiative originated by the British Aviation Preservation Council (BAPC) and developed in partnership with the Imperial War Museum – Duxford. It will initially
