of the bonnets needed to be added, as did the holes for the steering box output shafts. The wings on these cars were relatively simple and the mounting holes provided made the photo-etched units straightforward to fit, the additional stays were added using thin wire. The kit’s photo- etched radiator cores were painted black and fit- ted into the beautifully-made shells. The front racing numbers were painted by hand rather than using the transfers provided. The kits included self-adhesive bonnet straps made of very thin leather with rather oversized buckles; these were used on one model. The other two had straps made from thin sheet metal and buckles from my parts box – the difference is difficult to see in the pictures.

The front suspension was neatly cast but did not include drop-arms, drag-links or steering arms – rather an odd omission as these are easily visible. The front shock-absorbers were separately cast which was a nice detail, none were provided for the rear and these were made from scrap ma- terial. Front brake cables were added using thin wire. The handles for the spare wheel on top of the rear of the bodies were made and fitted. The size of the silencers was reduced, the exhaust pipes were re-shaped and thin wire was wrapped round them to represent the asbestos rope binding; the ends of the pipes were drilled out.

The base plates had inaccurately shaped transmission tunnels, these were removed and the visible part of the gearboxes, complete with the remote controls and gear levers, were made and fitted instead. Pedals were made and added. The instrument panels were moulded into the body but were not quite right; new ones were made, complete with central switch panels, and instru- ment transfers were added from my parts box. The central levers on the steering wheels were made from thin wire. The cars each had an air- horn fitted to the chassis by the nearside front

wheel, these were made from scrap material. The wheels were beautifully constructed and had tyre inflators added after painting, the tyres had a really accurately moulded tread pattern.

The kits for these models were excellent and

really good models could be made from them without any modification. However, if your preference is for something with a bit more detail then the kits provided a very good starting point for tailor-making them to the standard (and the car) you wished to have. It is just a pity that the kits and models were in production for such a short time.
