Spring Loaded Perennials Advice for gardeners from Chestnut Nursery

We love our herbaceous perennials here at Chestnut Nursery in Poole. Each year we grow and stock a large range of hardy perennials. They are easy to grow, bring vibrant colour year on year and provide a valuable source of food for nectar feeding insects and birds.

It’s now a perfect time of year to get planting and a great way to keep busy in the garden before the onslaught of annual bedding season. Having a wide pallet of plants to choose from, as we do, provides you the gardener with limitless creative possibilities. If you’re not sure what to plant where, then we're here to advise.

We all love a Hosta, but unfortunately so do the slugs and snails! So why not try a mollusc proof variety such as ‘Empress Wu’, a fantastic large grower with lovely mid green corrugated leaves. This year we will be growing an unusual ginger lily called Hedychium ‘Tara’, a reliably hardy exotic with large fragrant orange fl owers.

Who can resist a hardy Geranium? We certainly can’t and Geranium ‘Espresso’ is no exception, with chocolatey bronze foliage that contrasts against the light pink fl owers.

Our highly qualified team really do care - and it shows
