District Councillor Update
Recently a defibrillator was installed at the large Co-op store on Wareham Road. This was provided mainly from my Council Ward Members Budget and assistance from Cllr Paul Harrison. The help and support given to this project by the Co-op and the staff was tremendous and very much appreciated.
In a previous update I mentioned that there was a public consultation regarding the system of local government that should apply in the whole of Dorset. The result of this consultation led the leaders and chief executives, of the existing councils in Dorset, to recommend that the nine existing councils should be replaced with two new unitary councils. This would be Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch joining together to form one council, and East Dorset, North Dorset, Purbeck, Weymouth and Portland and West Dorset councils joining together to form the other.
For us, in Corfe Mullen, this would be a council that stretched from St. Leonards and St. Ives in the east to Lyme Regis in the west – from one end of Dorset to the other! Dorset County Council would disappear.
Each of the nine existing councils considered this suggested arrangement. Three councils –
Christchurch, East Dorset and Purbeck rejected this arrangement. The other councils supported it and will now submit this suggestion to the Government. This will be considered by the Secretary of State and he has the power to decide what will happen. We await his decision with a considerable amount of interest!
In these ‘modern times’ the computer reigns. For some of us, this is a whole new ball game and perhaps some of us need some help to come to terms with this digital age. If you feel that you need some tuition, the East Dorset Heritage Trust, based in Allendale House, Hanham Road, Wimborne, can help. Give them a call on 01202 888992 – you will receive a warm and helpful welcome.

Embr acing Lif
At Primetower Care we aim to provide a professional and genuinely caring approach to all our residents within our homes. You will find friendly, qualified nursing staff on duty 24 hours a day.
Quality of life is always an important consideration. If individuals are finding it harder to manage on their own, or need more help than they currently receive, choosing to live in a care home can make a dramatic difference to their quality of life.
Residents are able to choose how they live their life, what activities to take part in, when they want to be busy and when they want to have some down-time.
Our nurses, carers and activities team work with every resident and their families and friends to make sure everything is as it should be.
