12 ships, 12 unique experiences
Each Hurtigruten ship is distinct, with its own special personality, and varies in size, shape and layout. Regular guests and locals alike tend to have their favourite. Nostalgia-seekers adore the classic MS Lofoten, one of our oldest ships which has preserved her charming 1960s look and feel. MS Vesterålen has more of an earthy, working ship feel, while our millennial ships have been designed in a contemporary Scandinavian style.
Along with our brand new ship MS Spitsbergen, which was christened and launched summer 2016, four other ships have been freshly refurbished to high standards of comfort and design. Our signature ‘Arctic Interior’ style is one of elemental charm. Wood, slate and leather come together for a modern yet natural fi nish in the renovated cabins and main restaurant.
Local Conservation
Hurtigruten exists as an integral part of Norway’s heritage, not just for tourism. We have a responsibility to preserve not only the beauty of the fjords we travel through but also the local coastal culture. It’s why Hurtigruten makes every eff ort to support local businesses and why we set up the Hurtigruten Foundation – to encourage more sustainable travel in the areas we visit.
We support local causes and initiatives like “Clean up Svalbard” and help fund research centres. We also do our best to minimise our environmental footprint by using lighter fuel and investing in new hybrid ships, which will make their maiden voyages in 2018/19.
Dedicated onboard expedition teams
Our ships are run by experienced local crews, who are knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the route they travel. Many of the crew have grown up in the region and know the towns and villages along the coast better than anyone.
This year, we have added dedicated expedition teams to a number of our ships to enhance your enjoyment and enrich your voyage. These hand-picked teams will be your hosts, guides, concierges and experts, providing you with facts, local folklore and fun anecdotes. Most importantly, they are 100% passionate in bringing your journey to life.
Immerse, learn and actively discover
A big part of the Hurtigruten experience comes in the form of exploration and adventure. We have curated an extensive range of optional, seasonal excursions to choose from, each designed to provide you with a truly unforgettable and authentic Norwegian experience.
These excursions centre around local culture and traditions, nature and wildlife, and more active pursuits – we’ve made sure there’s something for everyone. Cherry-pick a couple of winter highlights like our award-winning dog sledding excursion or immerse yourself in as wide a variety as you’d like. It’s up to you.
