SIA adds Manchester links to Singapore and Houston

Singapore Airlines has introduced non-stop services from Manchester to Singapore and Houston.
Flights will operate five times
a week to both destinations, adding to SIA’s existing route to Singapore from Heathrow. The long-haul carrier says it is
the first direct route to the Texan city from the north of the UK. Sheldon Hee, general manager
for the UK and Ireland, said the route would appeal to both business and leisure travellers. “Houston is a bit different because it’s not as well known in the market,” he said. “But it’s a destination that we
hope will be much more appealing than people think.” Hee added that Houston is popular for its space programme, dining, shopping and family attractions, as well as being a major business destination because of its huge oil industry. Hee described the new Asia link

Delta and Virgin expand tie-up with US-India links
Delta Air Lines and Virgin Atlantic’s codeshare agreement has been bolstered with codeshare connections between destinations across the US and India via Heathrow. Passengers flying with Virgin’s Indian codeshare partner Jet Airways can connect to nine US cities served by Delta. Those flying with Delta and Virgin between the US and India will be able to connect on to Jet Airways’ flights to Mumbai and Delhi via Heathrow.

Norwegian offers Gatwick fares to Vegas from £179
Norwegian is claiming the cheapest flights between the UK and Las Vegas with the start of a twice-weekly service. Fares from Gatwick start at £179 one-way with departures on Mondays and Thursdays. Las Vegas is Norwegian’s third long-haul route introduced from Gatwick this year, following Oakland-San Francisco and Boston.

Atlasglobal launches Stansted-Istanbul flights
Atlasglobal Airlines has started daily flights from Stansted to Istanbul Ataturk airport. The airline says the route, from £86 one way, offers connections to destinations across eastern Europe and the Middle East.

Qantas moots non-stop London-Australia service
Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce said the airline is considering starting the first non- stop air link between the UK and Australia in 2017. Joyce said the long-range Boeing Dreamliner would enable direct flights from London to Perth. Negotiations are under way, with a decision described as “imminent”.
