and a Transportation Director Presenters: Michael Benedict & Kathleen Furneaux This workshop brings the unique combination of perspectives. The presenters represent a student with a disability, an attendant with a disability and a transportation director and will share their experiences on several issues related to riding the school bus and providing quality service to students and families.

Real-World Seat Belt Experiences Moderator: Allan J. Jones Panelists: Jill Gayaldo, Charlie Hood & Kris Hafezizadeh Hear from a school district that voluntarily adopted three- point, lap-shoulder seat belts for school buses and another that responded to a state mandate on how the technology really affects operations, costs and student safety and behavior. The discussion will include information from a NASDPTS representative, who will discuss national trends, and will be led by the state director of Washington state, where legislators continue to debate the potential of their school bus seat belt law.

Creating a Preventive Maintenance Checklist Presenters: Daniel Schultz & Kevin Talley What are the basic tenets of a school bus preventive maintenance program? Why are PM checklists so vital to school bus safety and fleet efficiency? Is there a difference between regular and special needs vehicles? How do you make interval decisions? Learn how to go about creating or revising your own procedures.

Tips for Transportation Presenter: Victoria Campbell Learn from a former television news reporter and current school district public information officer about how the media works, what deadlines they face, what information they need and how transportation personnel can prepare in the event of an accident or other incident that brings media to the scene.

Identifying Funding Opportunities Presenter: Colleen Crowninshield & John Mikulin A representative of EPA Region 9 and the West Coast Collaborative joins the coordinator of the Clean Cities Coalition of Tucson, Arizona to discuss the wide variety of grant opportunities available to school districts and how to go about tapping into resources to get their share of the money.

Accidents: What can we learn from them? School Bus accidents are often associated with contributing factors. Some of these are maintenance and or driver related. This newly updated workshop will review recent accidents and discuss some of the more frequent occurrences and some that are not so frequent. We will also look at some of today’s technology that assists in accident analysis.
