By optimizing routes and reducing the number of stops, miles driven and fuel con- sumption, Dives, who is now the district’s executive director of student services, said he and his staff helped to save the district $1.5 million over a two-year period. As a result, Tyler Technologies recognized Mag- nolia ISD in May at its users conference with the 2016 Tyler Public Sector Award.
“Tey not only offer a great product that would help optimize any transportation department, but they also share a vision of continually moving forward to provide their customers with the tools needed in our ever changing transportation world,” he commented. Meanwhile, Anoka-Hennepin Schools in northwest of Minneapolis uses Transfinder
software tools for route optimization. Nick Martini, the district’s McKin- ney-Vento route coordinator, oversees the busing of approximately 1,000 homeless students districtwide. Of that number, he said he receives approximate- ly 2,300 changes during the school year, so optimization of his routes is a priority. Martini uses the Transfinder GIS
overlay, which provides an aerial view of his district boundaries. It shows him cul-de-sacs, dead-end streets and gated communities where buses might have no or restricted access. Te overlay assists him in identifying businesses along the way that may have driveways too close to a potential bus stop. “Use of our Transfinder tools is a step into the future compared with other programs,” Martini said. “Te mapping software provides satellite images, which are particularly valuable when assisting substitute drivers, rout- ers and dispatchers.” Transfinder’s routing software Route

Finder Pro accurately puts in load times for students with disability codes which solve many issues. It adjusts pick-up and drop-off times taking into consideration the time taken to load wheel chairs and service animals. Routing speed is adjusted ranging from average speeds to slower residential speeds. Identifying speed zones and integrating them with the routing saves the district time and money.
