Melissa Dennis Irish Beauty Editor

This Summer will see a swathe of recently qualified students entering our industry. You will remember how difficult it was gaining your first shot at full time employment, and employing a recent graduate will not only get their feet on the career ladder, but can be an incredibly enriching experience for you as an employer and your other members of staff. Graduates serious about a career in beauty will come to your business with an abundance of enthusiasm and eagerness to continue their learning. Whilst some may be cautious about adding a relatively

inexperienced member to the team, you should embrace this enthusiasm and harness their passion as they have the potential to become a valued asset. Appoint more senior members of your team to act as a mentor to them; this will not only aid in your new recruit’s progression but also demonstrate to your other staff that you value their experience. Plus it will also take the pressure off you as a business owner or manager, knowing that your junior team members are being guided by someone you trust. Every member of our industry has the potential to become a brilliant therapist or nail technician, successful salon owner and inspiring business leader. Starting out is never easy, and we all need someone to believe in us at the beginning to enable individuals, and businesses, to reach their potential.
