Sunhotels looks fo to a sparkling year
Beach and city accommodation provider Sunhotels is targeting significant growth in trade sales in the UK. Regional director of sales PAUL HEWER explained more
What is Sunhotels? Sunhotels was set up in 2002 to provide Scandinavian travel agents with hotel content, and was focused mainly on beach product, hence the name! Since then, the company has increased its breadth and depth and now offers almost 80,000 properties in an incredible 157 countries. Beach content is still our core product, but in recent years we have increased our coverage significantly and offer a wide range of city content as well.
How did you start working for Sunhotels?
I joined the company in May last year after 11 years working for GTA/ Travelcube. The senior management team at Sunhotels boasts a lot of experience and many have worked with other leading accommodation providers and online travel firms. I’ve personally worked with our chief commercial officer Doros Theodorou and our chief executive Nigel Horne at GTA and Travelcube.
Why does Sunhotels stand out in what is a very competitive
accommodation sector? We’re not looking to reinvent the wheel but we feel we do a lot of things better than our competitors. The Scandinavian markets have always demanded outstanding customer service so that is a real selling point for us, and we pride ourselves on being easy to work with and on making quick decisions. The business and the team are growing at a rate of knots, with an expanded direct-buying team sourcing content our partners are demanding on a daily basis. In the UK, we have two former travel agents with a wealth of industry experience out on the road: Darren Phillips who looks after the north of England, north Wales and Scotland and Sarah Woodford looking after southern England and south Wales. Our offering is also
bolstered by great transfer coverage, and an in-house groups team looking after our clients’ group booking needs.
What are the key destinations for Sunhotels? Historically we are very big in the core sun destinations of the Mediterranean, Balearics, the Spanish Costas, Canaries, Greece and Florida, but we have a truly global footprint and offer all the core city-break destinations too. A large part of our business is based in Palma, so we have some amazing Balearics deals to offer on our “home turf” as unrest in alternative sun destinations increases interest in the western Med, and we are also seeing this effect in action in the Canaries which is also selling exceptionally well. Farther afield, Cuba is doing well for us as it remains “unspoilt”, while
