LITERACY
Sponsored spell Work with teaching staff to prepare a spelling test that’s appropriate for each class. Draw up sponsorship forms, set a date for the test, and ask pupils to practise spellings at home whilst seeking sponsorship (eg, 10p per correct word) from friends and family. Arrange for the test to take place during school hours, then have teachers send notes home with each words they spelt correctly. Ask pupils to bring in their sponsorship money, and give prizes to those who scored highest and those who collected the most sponsorship.
