and power than usual, others found that they had more power for a longer duration of time, and one vocalist claimed: “I had more power in lower register at the end of my range!”

Relaxation This study showed that many singers felt more relaxed about their singing practice and/or vocal performances whilst taking Voice Confidence. The reports highlighted the fact that 80% of the participants felt more relaxed, for example one stated: “I felt more free and relaxed than normal and more positive and clear about my singing.” Another participant explained: “Having a preceding ritual was a nice way to relax before starting the actual practice so my attitude became more relaxed.” Similarly one singer claimed: “…I felt a little more relaxed and emotionally stable.”

I felt more free and relaxed than normal…

It is important to note that this attribute (relaxation) was not a specific question included in the data model, but is shown as a significant key finding due to the outstanding corroboration of results.

Enjoyment In the same way as the previous key finding, the attribute of ‘enjoyment’ was not a specific point in the questionnaire, but reports showed a significant result, as 70% of the sample group claimed that they enjoyed their singing (practice in particular) more than usual.

Confidence Finally, the benefit most associated with Voice Confidence is of course, confidence. This quality was purposely left out of the questionnaire in order to see whether participants would report experiences of increased confidence, and the results showed that 40% claimed they experienced more confidence in singing and performing during the flower essence course, without being asked directly. One may say that power is closely linked to confidence, and in this way the results for ‘Power’ should perhaps be intrinsically linked to the unrequested results found in relation to increased confidence. The big question is – would more participants have reported an increased sense of confidence had they been asked? This remains unknown, and would be of significant interest during future research.

Conclusion Marion was invited to give a closing response and stated: “The study showed that a high percentage of participants had increased positive responses in the particular areas of breathing, power and range. The release of anxiety or tension (physical, emotional and mental), increased motivation, improved coordination, responsiveness and fortitude are indicated in the key findings. It could therefore be agreed that this study has shown how Voice Confidence may positively affect and improve overall vocal health and performance. Furthermore, although this study has revealed numerous positive benefits that are available for vocalists, it would be reasonable to say that actors, presenters and speakers of any kind would probably be able to gain similar, if not the same benefits.
