Safety: The fully automated dispatch centre functions without forklifts – they are only needed in loading the cargo, so the elimination of traffic inside the facility improves safety. Also, the pulp bales are handled carefully as the shuttle car moves the bales from the bottom.

Three main distribution channels for pulp: 800,000 tonnes are transported as export units by train to Vuosaari harbour to international markets, 400,000 tonnes are transported by train and trucks directly to customers mainly in Finland 100,000 tonnes are refined in different units in the mill area.

Fire safety in the TransBale

extinguish. In TransBale, there are thousands of sprinklers integrated into the shelving, which enables effective extinguishing. Environmental friendliness: The TransBale concept supports environmentally friendly principles. The system uses

energy produced by Metsä Group mills, so no fossil fuels are used. Furthermore, energy is recovered when cranes lower their loads and is returned to the mill’s own electricity network. Because fewer forklifts are needed, less fuel is consumed.

New Valmet tissue technology ordered for US mill

First tissue maker in the US to adopt Valmet’s Advantage NTT technology is Von Drehle Corporation at its mill in Natchez, Mississippi. It is the third tissue machine to

be delivered by Valmet to Von Drehle which already operates two Advantage DCT tissue lines at its Cordova mill in North Carolina. The Advantage NTT technology is said to be designed for maximum production flexibility, energy efficiency as well as enhanced product quality. “We are very pleased with the

equipment and systems as well as the support provided by Valmet to us and our contractors, both in the past and continuing,” says Joe Pankratz, vice president of manufacturing at Von Drehle Corporation. The new tissue machine has a width of 2.6m and a design speed of 2,000 m/min in plain mode

and 1,800 m/min in textured mode. Using recycled fibre as its raw material the production line is optimised to save energy and fibre as well as add possibilities for product differentiation and increased capacity of premium quality products.
