In 1937, however, the trillium was selected as Ontar-
io’s official emblem. The trillium was not just adopted by Ontario, it had earned it’s place after a vigorous campaign to find a worthy emblem. Its competitors included the dandelion, scotch thistle, orange lily and shamrock. It seems odd to think that the lovely trillium might have lost in favour of the much-maligned dandelion.
