Editor’s Message F

all is the season of change here in Manitoba. Te leaves are beginning to turn and tumble down from the trees, but there are other changes afoot at this time of year, as well. Perhaps the most significant change in the industry has been the new low-fare option that has joined the Canadian marketplace. Te long awaited arrival of NewLeaf is finally

a reality. After overcoming many hurdles, NewLeaf and carrier, Flair Airlines, have taken to the skies and are offering passengers low-cost options on flights to 11 Canadian destinations. Tis is also the time to get excited about the upcoming holiday season as we start itching to make

our winter getaway plans. Halloween is one of my favourite holidays so it may come as no surprise that Día de los Muertos is also a holiday that interests me. Celebrated throughout Mexico, the Day of the Dead festivities are lively and colourful celebrations that you should try to experience if you happen to be there at the beginning of November. Learn more about this unique festival and how to enjoy it in Mazatlán on page 44. Te cooling of the weather signals other seasonal changes. Besides the children’s return to school,

many of us look forward to the new season lineups from the arts community. Te ballet, symphony, opera and theatres are all back and have announced their exciting new programs. In addition, the NHL Heritage Classic is coming to Winnipeg and will be a must-attend event for sports fans everywhere. Changes are happening here at Te Hub, too. Tis was the last issue for Kristen McLure from

Winnipeg Airports Authority. She was with us since Te Hub’s inception. We will miss her con- tributions to the publication. I would like to thank Kristen for all of her diligent work on the magazine.

Join me in welcoming our two new teammates. We are thrilled to have Michael Badejo joining the team. He brings his previous marketing and communications experience from several industry sectors, including education, finance, community relations, tech, aviation and travel to his role as communications specialist at WAA. Michael enjoys the tourist experience visiting the natural wonders of the world. A self-proclaimed future snowbird, he loves warm temperatures. Tyler MacAfee joined the WAA team in August as director of corporate communications and public affairs. Tyler’s extensive background in similar roles in post-secondary education and mu- nicipal government, including his direct experience with magazine publications, will be valuable as Te Hub continues to evolve. Speaking of evolving, this is our first issue offering an augmented reality feature. You can find out

below how to access additional content. I hope you enjoy this issue and please share your thoughts on our new offering!
