A range of Mapei’s waterproofing and ceramic products have been utilised at Flitwick Leisure Centre, based in Bedfordshire. Tiletec Group were appointed as main contractor to deliver wall and floor tiling to the new build, which also included the pool areas.
The £14.7m new build leisure centre comprises a 25m2 competition pool, 13m2 learner pool (with
raised floor) and confidence water pool. In addition to the pools, there are four discrete changing/ shower areas which have been fully tiled; wet change, dry change, outside change and fitness suite changing, along with floor tiling to circulation areas and staircases amounting to a further 750m2 tiling.

Mapei products were specified alongside the porcelain tiles, which were installed throughout the floor and wall areas as well as the pool areas. Mapei products spanned from screed, render and
waterproofing to a range of different tile adhesives. Products installed included: 4,000m2
of Mapei’s high
performance flexible rapid-set adhesive Granirapid, Planitop Fast 330, Ultraplan Renovation Screed and Mapeker Rapid-set flex.
Flitwick Leisure Centre is a superbly equipped ‘wet and dry’ centre offering a wide range of leisure activities for all the community. The project was completed in early March 2016.

Recticel Insulation “room in a roof” system lines up for industry honours
An innovative “room in a roof” system created by leading PIR manufacturer, Recticel Insulation, is in line for two highly-prized industry accolades.
L-Ments®
, a prefabricated roof system that enables the installation of a fully insulated pitched roof in just a matter of hours, has been shortlisted for a Structural Timber Award (STA). The self-supporting system which offers a safe, fast method of creating a watertight structure is also among the finalists in this year’s Offsite Awards.

An exciting new addition to the insulation market, the L-Ments® system
offers fast, quality construction along with superb thermal performance. An eco-house being built in Hampshire’s New Forest became the first UK project to use the system. It enabled the construction of the detached home’s pitched roof in just seven hours.

earned a nomination for an STA award for Product
Innovation. The awards celebrate the best in building with the world’s leading mainstream, low-carbon construction material. The winners will be announced in a ceremony being held at the National Conference Centre, Birmingham, which attracts more than 500 national business leaders and ‘high-profile decision makers’ from the construction industry.
The Offsite Awards, in which L-Ments® is a finalist in the Product
Innovation category, recognises the best in precision building design and delivery in off-site manufacture. The awards acknowledge outstanding examples of prefabrication and factory-based methods, products, systems and disciplines that increasingly strive to develop a sustainable, streamlined and cost-effective way to deliver a better-built environment.
