Off-Site Construction THE SCIENCE OF BUILDING
How to design and procure for off-site construction
The Portakabin Group has updated its CPD training programme, which advises architects, contractors, engineers, facilities managers and other building professionals about working with advanced off-site construction solutions.
The one-hour RIBA-accredited seminar looks at how to get the best out of off-site construction and the latest innovations and technical advancements in modular technology.
Portakabin has been the market leader in award-winning, architectural off-site building solutions under its Yorkon brand for more than 30 years. Its team has a wealth of experience to help architects and construction professionals advance their knowledge and maintain professional accreditations
AN INTERACTIVE CPD WORKSHOP ABOUT ADVANCED OFF-SITE SOLUTIONS
The interactive CPD workshop, which includes a presentation and a question and answer session, is an invaluable opportunity to learn about working with off-site construction. Sessions can be arranged at a time and venue to suit attendees.
The programme looks at: l Preconceptions of modular building l An overview of the huge variety of architectural features, cladding and design options now available
l An understanding of the flexibility of advanced modular solutions l The off-site building process and typical programmes l The sustainability and site safety advantages l Practical advice on how to choose an off-site specialist
All attendees on the Yorkon CPD seminar receive a certificate as proof of attendance, to contribute to maintaining professional accreditations. The presentation is independently approved by the RIBA and counts as one hour towards CPD training.
This CPD programme for off-site construction is highly beneficial to building and design professionals who want to make use of the speed, quality and efficiency benefits of the approach but without any compromise on design or layout.
THOUSANDS OF CONFIGURATIONS TO MAXIMISE DESIGN FLEXIBILITY
Portakabin offers an unparalleled range of modular buildings and with its permanent, bespoke off-site solutions, there are now thousands of configurations and permutations for the ultimate in design flexibility and to meet almost any building footprint, design or site.
Off-site construction can help building and facilities management professionals to deliver bespoke schemes of the highest quality, in a fraction of the time of site-based methods and with less disruption. This is because such a large part of the construction and fitting out process takes place in a controlled factory environment. This approach also achieves much greater certainty of delivery on time and on budget.
Applications for open plan building systems are diverse and include schemes for schools and academies to address the shortage of education places; complex healthcare buildings on highly constrained hospital sites - from operating theatres and ward extensions to complete hospitals, and high quality facilities for the rail, nuclear, utilities, commercial and manufacturing sectors.
North Middlesex University Hospital A LONG HISTORY OF INNOVATION AND INDUSTRY FIRSTS
The Portakabin Group has a long history of innovation in off-site construction and the company continues to break new ground in every sector. Its Yorkon solutions are being used for the UK’s largest education project to be built off site - a £44 million three-school campus for more than 2,600 pupils, and for the first University Technical College to be built using modular construction.
An £18 million contract for the Women and Children’s Centre at North Middlesex University Hospital was delivered by Portakabin. This was the UK’s largest and most complex modular building project to be built in the health sector, and was handed over on time despite a challenging programme.
Recent schemes in the commercial sectors include a new office complex at Smurfit Kappa’s Townsend Hook manufacturing site, and the first purpose-designed fluid production and technical facility for e-cigarettes to be built in the UK.
Portakabin also offers a CPD programme, Decanting without Compromise, to help building professionals procure and specify facilities for short term use.
