Parents from the family-run nursery, Brishing Barn, attended a special ceremony to celebrate its fifth anniversary and their children’s graduations.
Many of the little
“graduates” have been at the nursery since it first opened five years ago, when there had only been a small handful of them.
The ceremony took place outside the beautiful Grade II listed barn in Brishing Lane, Boughton Monchelsea, a short distance from Maidstone town centre.
In brilliant summer sunshine, the children received their scrolls in the spacious play area.
The children at the ceremony are leaving Brishing Barn to start ‘big school’ in September, having spent happy early years at the nursery.
The ceremony has become an annual event and is seen as a way of marking the children’s achievements and to say a
warm farewell as they move onto the next stage in their education.
Brishing Barn owner and founder Elisabeth Balfour said: “When I started up the nursery, I drew upon my experiences as a parent and tried to provide a homely, welcoming environment.
“I’d like to think we have been successful as the nursery is popular and really busy. We do have some
availability in our pre-school room from September, for three-year-olds. We are open 50 weeks of the year - only closing between Christmas and New Year, and all bank holidays.”
For Elisabeth, a “warm and communicative” relationship with parents is a source of pride as is the nursery’s exclusive use of Nurserycam, a secure website, where parents can log in privately to see their children during the day at no extra cost.
Matt and Lisa Lamb, parents of Brishing Barn graduate Joshua, said: “The Nurserycam just gives us reassurance and we like knowing that we can check our little boy is safe.”
Elisabeth added:
“People visiting Brishing Barn for the first time often comment on the welcoming and beautiful setting.”
