News Town protocol
on its plaques MAIDSTONE is considering adopt- ing a “plaques protocol” to com- memorate some of the borough’s most eminent citizens. At present, there is only a handful
of plaques in place – one in Earl Street commemorating Andrew Broughton, who sentenced King Charles I to death in 1648, and an- other to note the service of nurse Edith Cavell, who helped fight Maidstone’s typhoid outbreak in 1897, on the wall of the United Re- formed Church inWeek Street. There is also plaque on the Town
Hall to commemorate The Battle of Maidstone and another tocommem- orate Havock Lane at FremlinWalk. The council does not currently op-
erate a plaque scheme and the owner of any building can erect a plaque on it with planning consent. The committee believes it should
show its commitment to local her- itage by drawing up a protocol for future plaque installations. A report drawn up by committee chairman Cllr David Pickett with input from Cllrs CliveEnglish, Jenni Paterson and Gordon Newton, rec- ommends adopting a standard slate plaque with inscriptions cut in Times Roman font. The names of prominent people or events should be gilded in 23 carat gold lettering.

Baby Alexa is another ‘spooky’ family female
NEWmumSara Mollison reckons the new addition to her family is already living by numbers. There has been a series of “spooky” coincidences where many female relations have birth months which correspond to the birth date. For instance, baby Alexa Molli-
son, who was born at Pembury Hospital, Tunbridge Wells, two weeks late, arrived in the world on June 6 (6/6). Perhaps there is nothing unusual
there – but Sarawas born on Octo- ber 10 (10/10) – as was her mother, Mary Hillgrove. Sara’s sister Leesa was born on December 12 (12/12) and her sister- in-law Sarah Mollisonwas born on May 5 (5/5) To top it all, Sara’s mother-in-
law, Jackie Mollison, was born on July 7 (7/7). Sara, who is on maternity leave
from her job as a maths teacher at Valley Park School in Maidstone, said: “She kept us waiting, but it turns out she wanted to impress
Left: Sara, left, with mum-in-law Jackie, Sarah and baby Alexa. Above: Sara's mumMary and younger sister Leesa in Canada
her mathematical mama and be like all the other ladies in the fam- ily.”
Alexa, who weighed in at 6lb
14oz, is the first child for Sara and her husband Elliot, who live near Penenden Heath. Her sister-in-law Sarah gave birth to her first child with hus-
band Chris Mollison, a boy named Oakley, a year ago. The couple live in Larkfield. Proud grandma Jackie Mollison,
fromWest Farleigh, said: “Wewere so excited at Alexa being born that the penny didn’t drop at first that she was keeping up the family tra- dition. It’s quite spooky really!”
