Sonoma County, CA. ~ An in- credibly beautiful, brilliantly em- erald green-chested hummingbird is our current main visitor to our back yard garden. A delightfully brave and confident tiny bird,


it happens to


enjoy playing a sort of in-the-air jump rope with the stream of water I aim at the base of


rose bushes


with our klutzy green garden hose. When bored, the little green thing zips to every blossom of all of our plants and seems bold and happy. Two other recent visitors to our completely fenced in sanctuary are


a small, white cat with little black ears who loves to hide under the deck the moment it discovers an unwanted humanoid is out and about. Te other kitty is tawny, lovely orange and may have a mind set of a jungle tiger. It certainly is agile and can leap when we ap- pear. But, they are not particularly happy. Even though they try to hide in the lush green leaves of several agapanthus near the two bird baths, opti-


mistically hoping, perhaps, that a birdie will simply pop into a will- ing pursed kitty-mouth, the birds
