Parents’ concerns over school bus uncertainty

ANGRY parents in Kings Hill and West Malling are calling for better buses after months of break- downs and no-shows making their children late for school. Around a dozen children board

Arriva’s 7.30am service from West Malling to Tonbridge each day to get to Judd, Hayesbrook and Hillview schools. But at least once a month, the bus

fails to turn up – or breaks down en route, making them an hour or more late for lessons. The bus stop is outside Tesco in

West Malling High Street, where there is no shelter, and they are often left with a 90-minutewait for the next vehicle. Hayesbrook School has warned

single dad ShaneWebb he needs to ensure sons Shane (15) and Sonny (12) get to school on time – but he also has to get nine-year-old Stan to the Discovery School at Kings Hill. During exam time, Mr Webb, of

EwellAvenue, has been driving his elder sons to school. He said: “They have enough pressure with exams without having to worry and stress about the bus not turning up.”

my job, I understand how impor- tant it is for children to get to school on time. Joe has been doing GCSEs, which makes it even more impor- tant not to be late. I have to take time off work to take him to school and it takes an hour to drive there and back.” DownsMailapproachedArrivafor acommentbut received no response.
