DSI Black Pages Salute Breast Cancer Legacy and Fighter/Survivors Honorees

call even though she was in the middle of receiving her treatment. It would be my last conversation with her, and even then, she was trying to help a lady get a mammogram. Her tenacious fighting spirit endured until the end, and on February 14, 2014, she made her heavenly transition.” So, for Sonia and all that continue to be diagnosed with breast cancer, DSI Black Pages will use its platform to tell their stories, strive to bring awareness to this dreaded disease, and challenge women to be pro-active in their health by eating a healthy diet, and exercise daily, schedule breast examinations and do their self-check breast examinations often.

Pages Tampa Bay Publisher Sherryl J. Cusseaux and Turbans by Jadore owner/designer Alanah Cusseaux launched the Breast Cancer Legacy and Fighters/Survivors Campaign to honor the legacy of the millions of courageous women who loss their fight with breast cancer and those who are surviving the fight against breast cancer.

For this edition, the story morphs into a cause that aligns with the edition’s theme, “Couplepreneur, Which Two Are You?” This mother/daughter Couplepreneur, DSI Black

or the last three years, in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, DSI Black Pages has featured one of its advertisers’ breast cancer stories. The last edition, featured Mrs. Sonia Franklin’s story, ‘A Woman’s Faith’. As a three-time breast cancer survivor, Mrs. Franklin never allowed her challenges with cancer to influence her purpose in life. It would be the next year that Mrs. Franklin would face another daring cancer diagnosis. According to childhood friend Mrs. Sherryl J. Cusseaux, “Sonia had an agenda, and began working in another gear.” One day in early February, Sonia accepted my telephone

States. With the majority from Florida with a reach to California. One such honoree, Mrs. Joyce Austin (Tampa) said, “I’m honored to be recognized, I am a four-time cancer survivor. I survived two-breast cancer and two-kidney cancer diagnoses.” She further states, “I am thankful for the health I have today, and my loving and supporting family and friends. Anytime I can help someone and bring awareness to this disease, I want to. I call it “Your Journey.” Its stories shared like Mrs. Austin’s that compels DSI Black Pages to share the names of some of the courageous women in the latest edition. To commemorate the breast cancer awareness campaign, Ms. Alanah Cusseaux began her search for jewels that resembled the breast cancer awareness ribbon. While traveling to Miami, she found the perfect brooch collection and began creating the ‘bling’ pink turbans. Once the turbans were launched, Ms. Cusseaux wanted to donate a portion of the proceeds to a breast cancer organization. Her mother, Mrs. Sherryl Cusseaux knew the perfect breast cancer organization, Sisters Network of Tampa Bay, and contacted its president, Mrs. Iselyn Dallas Hamilton. Upon seeing the turbans, Mrs. Hamilton placed her order for five, and that became the magical number for other orders. During the month of October many ladies adorned Turbans by Jadore, while others were shipped to other states.

On behalf of DSI Black Pages, Turbans by Jadore, and our Facebook fans, we thank you for introducing these phenomenal women to our subscribers, and supporting the breast cancer awareness campaign. May we all continue to salute and support the fight against ALL cancers. We Salute YOU!

The legacy and fighter/survivor honorees were submitted via DSI Black Pages Facebook campaign. Names began coming in via FB posts, emails and calls of loved ones wanting to honor their family members and friends. Requests were received from all over the United
