When Glasgow jointly hosts the 2018 European Championships, a potential television audience of one billion sports fans will be turning their attention to the city

lasgow’s well-deserved reputation as one of the world’s great sporting cities continues to win
sports fans. And Glasgow Chamber of Commerce is delighted to be playing a pivotal role in bringing the 2018 European Championships to Glasgow. Te announcement of this outstanding international multi-sport event will mean opportunities for trade and investment in the City. Glasgow and Berlin are joint host cities for the inaugural
European Championships between 1-12 August, broadcast to a potential television audience of more than one billion sports fans. In partnership with Glasgow
City Council and the Scotish Government, the Chamber is chairing the Glasgow 2018 Trade and Investment Group to promote local and national businesses across the core markets of Europe through the staging of the new multi-sport event. Scotland will host the existing European Championships of
aquatics, cycling, rowing, triathlon and gymnastics, brought together for the first time, while a new golf team championships will be staged at Gleneagles. At the same time, Berlin will host the European Athletics Championships. Stuart Patrick, Chief Executive
of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, and Chair of the Trade and Investment Group, said: “Following on from the success of the Commonwealth Games for the city in 2014, the European Championships will provide us
with a fresh opportunity to showcase Glasgow and Scotland to a wider European audience which includes Germany, the Netherlands, Italy and France. Te fact we are hosting the championships jointly with Berlin also demonstrates the level at which Glasgow is now operating in the world sporting market. “Te event will bring more than
