Forthcoming Events

By Keith Nicol

‘Schools Out For Summer’ sang Alice Cooper in his chart topping hit back in 1972. For the next ten weeks thousands of children will be running around trying to keep occupied while parents will be trying to stop them being bored, whilst not upsetting the daily schedule too much. Many local towns and cities have summer schemes and you should quickly check with the Town Hall to see if there are any places left, should you be looking for somewhere safe where the kids will have fun this summer.

A fun and unusual event for kids of all ages is the Torrellano Miniature Steam Train. It is run by the friends of the railways association and so is normally only open on Saturdays between 4pm and 8pm with Miniature Train Rides during February and March on the 2nd Sunday from 10:30am to 1:30pm. Every month the Friends of the Railways Association host a miniature train event at the railway museum in Torrellano. Donations of 1.50€ per visit are requested.

One of the more interesting events is the monthly Craft Market at the Cuevas del Rodeo in Rojales, where local artists put their work on display along with other craft works to browse and enjoy. It takes place on the 1st Sunday of every month and in the summer it’s open from 7pm to 11pm. Well worth a visit for a relaxing evening out. Many of the artist’s caves will be open for you to visit and during the year the markets are categorised with such fun activities as circus shows and workshops, live music, exhibitions and displays, special activities for children, tapas, drinks and more.
