Quesada Bowls Club report Sponsored by

QF Focus Magazine

Our Spring Leagues are well under way and with not long to go before the summer heat sets in. Both our teams are having some very good results, with our Lancasters team looking to win their league. In the Valencian Championship League our Lions are challenging for top spot.

Recently we have seen the Spanish National Champions taking place over two weeks and many of our club members were involved. Congratulations to three of our ladies who reached their respective finals.

Peta Rhodes and Carol Broomfield contested the ladies pairs, where they were involved in a very exciting final against two ladies from San Miguel. This was a match that swung back and forth and nobody could predict the outcome. Our ladies were holding the match when a good bowl by the San Miguel skip snatched the victory.

Mel Highland was involved in the Ladies Singles, again taking on another lady from San Miguel, a previous National Champion. This was another match, the outcome of which could not be predicted, with some excellent bowling from both ladies. With Mel holding shot for the match a great bowl from her opponent snatched victory. This Ladies Singles was said to be the best game of the Championships.

The SABA summer knock-out competitions are in full swing and many of our members have already reached the quarter finals stage, so onwards and upwards to the finals in mid September.

This month sees the departure of long term club member and past committee member and club President, Margaret Smith, who is returning to the U.K. to be nearer to her daughters. Good wishes are sent to Margaret for a happy retirement with her family.

Our Saturday morning ‘Chicken Drive’ is open to visitors. Players wishing to take part should report at 9.45am for a 10am start.
