QF Focus Magazine Hi All !
Phew! I think it's fair to say that summer has arrived! Things are certainly picking up on
the local music scene, especially now that the season is under way.
I recently had the pleasure of listening to a newly formed 5 piece band, made up of veteran musicians, with interesting and varying backgrounds in the music industry. I am referring to "Labyrinth".
The line up of this group is: Mick Murrin on drums. Mick, originally from London, started playing drums in the early 1960s with groups around his home city. At 16 years of age, he relocated to Northamptonshire to join "Johnny and the Jailbirds", a pro-fifties original Rock 'N Roll show band. During this time, the band recorded an LP and several singles. Mick moved to Spain in 2008 and has played with several musicians, before joining this new project. On Keyboards is Noel, who hails from Gent in Belgium. His musical influences came from the 60s pop revolution. Later on, it was synthesizer music from Jarre & Vangelis that drew his attention. Noel started playing organ (and later on keyboards and arrangers) while in his twenties. However, the ambition and time availability to commit 100% to music, only came after his retirement in 2009. He enjoyed being a member of "Choice4Us" a top band from the Netherlands. It was 2 years later that he moved to Spain. Norman Lavisher is the "late starter" in the band. Originally from Oldham, he lived most of his life in the South of England. It was at the age of 45 that Norman started playing guitar. He played in two UK bands, but since moving to Spain in 2005, he has been in several bands, duos and trios. He enjoys playing most genres of music, including rock, blues, heavy rock, rock 'n roll and ballads. On lead vocals is Maggie Voss. Born and brought up in the West Midlands, Maggie's styles in music cover a wide range. Her experience in the music industry has taken her from a 16 piece swing band to a 7 piece showband, and numerous small rock and pop groups. Last, but not least is Pete Maxwell on guitar / bass guitar and vocals. Pete is from Torquay in Devon. He started playing guitar at 8 years of age, was in his first school group two years later, and has never stopped since. Over the years, he has played through the various musical eras, from The Shadows to Tamla Motown, through The Who and Cream to Slade and Jazz Funk.
Labyrinth play a vast repertoire, covering music from the 1960s onwards. Check out the local press for up and coming performances.
