New garden town for East Kent? New PCC for Kent
Matthew Scott (left) has become one of the
youngest people in England to become a Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), after
winning the vote
here in Kent. The 31-year-old Conservative Party candidate’s victory was declared at Dover Town Hall after he polled 15,097 more fi rst preference votes than his closest rival, UKIP’s Henry Bolton. Mr Scott said: “It is an honour to have been elected as your PCC. I’ll make sure that I work hard for all of Kent – urban, rural and coastal. “I also look forward to meeting as many people as possible, and working with Kent Police offi cers and staff to deliver a six point plan.” He takes over from Independent PCC Ann Barnes, from Lyminge, who did not stand for re-election.

Ambitious plans are being considered by Shepway District Council to create a new “garden town” around Otterpool Manor Farm, near Folkestone. The local authority is to evaluate proposals for a bid to the Government to develop a new community that could have up to 12,000 homes. If approved, Otterpool Garden Town, would feature its own businesses, schools and park areas.
Leader of Shepway District Council, Councillor David Monk (left), said the scheme would help meet the area’s long-term employment and housing targets. “Otterpool Park gives us an unmissable opportunity. It will deliver the homes and jobs we need, in a great setting that’s already well connected.”
