A taste of the Mediterranean close to home
Words & photograph Neill Barston

I Its owners Dominic and Roxanna
Everson are fortunate to have spent a decade overseas, including living in Jordan, where they soaked up plenty of culinary inspiration for their cafe venture in their native Kent. They are now celebrating their fi rst year of running the business.
Specialising in breakfasts and lunches, the cafe features a menu that is updated frequently. For my visit I chose an excellent vegetarian falafel wrap from the specials board, which was served with a decent portion of salad and potatoes that have been clearly infl uenced by their time in Jordan. There is also an impressive range of drinks, which includes local ale, though I sampled some decidedly fi ne apple juice farmed from nearby Faversham. There are plenty of other choices on

offer, from its breakfasts and lunches, which include a tempting selection of Mediterranean mezze foods such as high quality lamb and chicken skewers, grilled halloumi and falafels, plus home-made free range lamb kofta. According to Dominic, among the venue’s star culinary offerings are its shortbread dessert slices. Though it is not open for general evening dining, the cafe is picking up trade for private hire events.
