RSVP / OUT & ABOUT PRINCE CHARLES AT
THE MARLOWE THEATRE The Prince of Wales heard all about The Marlowe Theatre’s creative work at Shakespeare Live! where Andy Dawson, the theatre’s Head of Creative Projects, met the Prince at the star-studded gala at the Royal Shakespeare Company’s (RSC) home in Stratford-upon-Avon. The event commemorated the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death. This work includes The Marlowe’s flourishing partnership with the RSC, which
recently saw members of The Canterbury Players and children from King Ethelbert School, Birchington, join the professional cast for A Midsummer Night’s Dream – the RSC’s Play For A Nation. Next month The Canterbury Players will appear in A Midsummer Night’s Dream in Stratford-upon-Avon.

SCHOOL DRILL
COMPETITION Students at the Duke of York’s Royal Military School in Dover displayed their marching and presentation skills at the school’s annual inter-house drill competition. Captain Stu Milligan, a former pupil, returned to judge the competition, accompanied by two Senior NCOs, Staff Sergeant Mundee and Sergeant Fiakagbe, from his
regiment, the Queen’s Own Gurkha Logistic Regiment based in Aldershot. All pupils in Years 9 to 13 took part, representing their respective houses, and the entire school later took part in a parade at the end of the day, led by the school’s military band. • Visit

SHERIFF PRESENTS
ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS The Sheriff of Canterbury presented five-year achievement awards to volunteers at Stream Walk Community Garden in Whitstable. The garden has developed from a small allotment site, which was underused by local residents, to a thriving community garden for all ages and abilities to enjoy. Kent Enterprise Trust and Transition Town Whitstable have worked together for more than five years to provide a wonderful resource for the whole community. Robert Jones, Councillor for Herne and Broomfield, said: “We had a great time at the Stream Walk allotment gardens seeing what has evolved there and all that is being achieved is fantastic, so well done to you all with this.”
