No place like the Tyler’s Kiln
T
he medieval hamlet of Tyler Hill, located on the outskirts of Canterbury, was once home to a village shop, post offi ce and a thriving local pub named The Ivy House. Over the past two decades, the shop and post offi ce had closed down and the pub struggled to remain open, changing landlords several times until it served its fi nal pint in 2011.
It seemed unlikely that the pub would
ever re-open as its popularity and reputation had dwindled and the empty property had been earmarked for student accommodation by local property developers.
Then in 2012 with huge support from local villagers, Tyler Hill resident Allister Collins purchased the pub and together
with another local resident Tony Sherwood, commenced an ambitious renovation project to radically transform the venue.
Owing to the owners’ ambition to create a one-of- a-kind venue, the pub has been fi nished to an incredibly high standard, with no expense spared.
The pub quickly rose to be the Number 1 pub on TripAdvisor in Canterbury and surrounding areas within two months of opening and has remained there ever since. “There’s no place like The Tyler’s Kiln” is the pub’s slogan – and if you come and take a look for yourself, we are sure you’ll see why!
