Ten thousand children are expected to take part, and with the promise of a free racket it is hoped they will continue to play. One thousand trained Legacy coaches will run the courses, with supporting mentors such as Annabel Croft and Greg Rusedski adding encouragement. Great British Tennis Weekend
Clubs across the region are organising free tennis events, with sessions to suit the whole family – from mini games, cardio and much in between. Rackets and balls will be provided. Weekends will take place

Davis Cup comes to Canterbury
As part of its UK tour, the actual Davis Cup is coming to Polo Farm indoor tennis centre on Wednesday 8th June. As well as photo opportunities, the Canterbury Tennis Club is offering activities including exhibition matches by the county’s top juniors, wheelchair tennis, and Canterbury Christ Church University teams.

POLO FARM A venue with enviable indoor and outdoor facilities (six artifi cial clay courts) on the edge of Canterbury, Polo Farm has a full programme of tennis. Canterbury Tennis Club plays in several leagues and offers plenty of opportunity for competition. It runs courses for adults and

children, with junior courses running during the year and tennis camps in the holidays. The club is also involved in coaching in schools with the Give It Your Max programme and offers places on the current Davis Cup Legacy initiative. • Visit

HERNE BAY Nicola Mileham is the qualifi ed coach at this friendly club, which boasts fl oodlights and a purpose-built clubhouse. As well as encouraging children into the game, Nicola runs a beginners’ group, aimed at complete newcomers or those with limited experience, and also Rusty Rackets – a popular session for those not quite ready for club play. Herne Bay welcomes players at all levels
