Award-winning cream certainly 'milking' it!

A few weeks ago, the headlines were screaming about babies given paracetamol being nearly a third more likely to develop asthma. Te headlines related to a study carried out by researchers from the Norwegian Institute of Public Health, the University of Oslo and the University of Bristol but, while most newspapers reported the study's findings accurately, the headline writers overstated the findings. A link between paracetamol use and asthma has only been suggested, not proven.

No need to be blue over veins!

One of the less glamorous side of pregnancy is the appearance of spider veins. These ugly little veins, which affect up to 50 per cent of pregnant women, are generally caused by the increase in both your body’s blood volume, and progesterone levels, which cause the blood vessels to relax, meaning they can easily become swollen with blood. Remescar Spider Veins is an innovative medical device, which is not only designed for the prevention and treatment of spider veins, but also provides support to the weakened vessels to stop the formation of new ones. www.remescar.com

Zika: what does it mean for you?

The World Health Organization (WHO) has reported that the Zika virus has now spread through both South and Central America and expects between three-four million people to be infected in 2016. The virus is a mosquito-borne infection, which isn't harmful in most cases. but it has been potentially linked to birth defects – specifically, abnormally small heads (microcephaly), so it does pose a threat to pregnant women. Current advice is that, if you are pregnant, or planning to become pregnant, you should discuss your travel plans with your GP. If you're already pregnant, consider postponing travel to any region where a known outbreak of the Zika virus is occurring and, if you are pregnant and have a history of travel to a country where there is an ongoing Zika virus outbreak, see your GP or midwife and mention your travel history even if you have not been unwell.
