You: Try and get plenty of rest but, equally, do some exercise as and when you feel up to it.

Tip: To avoid swelling in your fingers, legs, ankles and feet, wear comfortable shoes and avoid socks or stockings with elasticised tops. Drink plenty of water to flush the body of waste products.

Week 27

Baby: Baby will have been practising breathing, but from now on its breathing will become more rhythmic and constant.

You:Welcome to the third - and final - trimester! Put your feet up when you can - very soon there'll be NO time to rest!

Tip: Be aware of the signs of early labour such as cramps that are accompanied by nausea, diarrhoea or indigestion or increasing pain or feeling of pressure in the lower back.

Week 28

Baby: Baby may be hiccuping by now and its eyes will be partially opened.

You: You'll be making a lot of trips to the bathroom as baby will be pressing against your bladder and you may feel a little breathless.

Tip: Pack your hospital bag. Don't forget to pack a bag for baby as well!

Week 29

Baby: Baby will be sporting a full head of hair by now!

You: With constant weeing, swollen feet and searing back pain you may be hoping the third trimester is shorter than the other two!

Tip: Draw up your birth plan with details such as who will be at the birth; whether or not you want your birth recorded and your preferred pain relief options.

Week 30

Baby:Te parts of baby's brain which control personality and intelligence will be developing fast, so baby's character will be starting to form.

You: Since baby is squeezing your tummy, you may be finding it difficult to eat without feeling full almost immediately.

Tip: Elevate your feet at every opportunity to lighten the load!

Week 31

Baby: If you shine a bright light on your tummy, your baby will blink or close its eyes although you obviously won't see it!

You: Say hello to stretch marks! from pink to purple and every shade in between...

Tip: If it makes you feel better, do use creams for stretch marks. Tey don't usually make much difference but a little TLC never did anybody any harm!

Week 32

Baby: Baby's lungs will now have developed enough for it to breathe on its own, so the chances of survival would be very good now.

You: Since baby's legs will now reach up as high as your ribs, you'll probably start to feel some sharp kicks in that area, so don't worry if you feel a little breathless at times!

Tip: Fill your freezer with loads of food that's ready for the first few weeks at home. Keep it simple with soups, pasta sauces, pies and lasagnes.
