Sauchiehall Street’s people-friendly proposal receives a positive response


ll in Sauchiehall, the Sauchiehall Street’s Business Improvement District (BID), has


been working to transform the famous street into a more people- friendly area and atract more core custom in the process. Trough 2015, proposals were


developed for major investment in the area to transform the street, including creating more space for pedestrians and cyclists, ‘greening’ the street, and provide beter quality pavements and lighting. Te moves to transform


Sauchiehall Street include local businesses working closely with Glasgow City Council. Together they will also seek to provide more arts and cultural activity, more opportunities for business to use outdoor space and new waste management systems. Te BID board’s vision is to


liſt the whole street, help local businesses and bring more vibrancy, life and activity. Te response to the Sauchiehall Street District Plan,


developed by Gale Architects working along with the BID board, was remarkably positive with proposals such as creating an urban boulevard at the M8 capturing the public imagination. Proposals for the Sauchiehall


Street Avenue will see new moves to change the look of the street with detailed designs currently being worked on.
