Equine Education – Has The Answer!


If you’re interested in improving your knowledge and horsemanship skills, Equine Education’s online courses, set up by Dr Jo-Anne Murray and Dr Peter Hastie, might be for you.


Jo-Anne, a British Horse Society Intermediate Instructor, gaineda PhD in equine nutrition before setting up the first and only online Equine Science masters’ programme at the School of Veterinary Studies at the University of Edinburgh.


She said: “I realised after providing degree level courses on line, that there were a number of people who would like to learn more about horse management but couldn’t commit to a degree


programme. Equine Education allows the participants to fit their studying in around their busy schedules, which includes their horses!”


Dr Hastie has an MSc in Animal Production and a PhD in Reproduction. He is currently a Senior Lecturer and Head of Veterinary Animal Husbandry at the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Glasgow, where he is also Director of the university’s farm and large animal research centre.

Leading international horse charity, World Horse Welfare, is to be Charity of the Year at the 2016 Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials 2016.


New judges appointed


Following its recent Judge Assessments, Sport Horse Breeding of Great Britain has appointed a number of new judges, including the following people from the north and Scotland.

BHS awards Fellowship to two successful candidates


The prestigious title of Fellow of The British Horse Society has been awarded to Nick Gauntlett and Danny Anholt, following two gruelling days of assessment, during which candidates are assessed on coaching skills, practical demonstrations, theoretical knowledge, stable management and the history of equitation.


Nick becomes a BHS Fellow (Eventing) and Danny a BHS Fellow (General). They join 78 BHS Fellows since the qualification was initiated in 1949. The Fellowship is the highest recognition of professional standards across the equine industry and is


respected across the world.


Nick currently runs his own equestrian business, Chescombe Eventing, based in Gloucestershire, while Danny is Director of Equestrian Sports at Millfield School. He said: “I feel very proud and honoured to become a Fellow of the British Horse Society. As an equestrian coach it means a lot to have one’s experience and skills recognised in the highest equestrian qualification worldwide.”
